Reviews
The titlepage lie was that the Lady’s Monthly Museum was conducted “By a Society of Ladies” to “Exalt the Character of the British Fair” is only one of several deceptions practiced by this popular magazine. For the first two years the magazine provided explicit “guidance” in its own reviews of contemporary works, but in essay and story throughout. The advocacy of conservative values was the goal of the publication.
