2007 0-7734-5265-6 This study seeks to develop a thorough understanding of the change of ownership and property rights in the context of China in transition, with all the political and social implications that the process entails. To do so, the work aims both to understand and challenge the conventional property rights theory which fails to consider the organizational context of the societies in which economic institutions operate. The research identifies the strong presence of the state associated with the evolution of high-tech spin-offs in transitional China, the process of which has also been characterized by fuzzy property rights and public entrepreneurship as two key stepping stones of development.
