About the author: Dr. Converse holds an MFA in Directing from the University of Minnesota, and a PhD in Theatre Arts from the University of California at Los Angeles. Specializing in the teaching of directing, he is the author of Directing for the Stage: A Workshop Guide of Creative Exercises and Projects. He is currently an Associate Professor of Theatre in the Washing State University School of Music and Theatre Arts. In addition to a comprehensive Jungian analysis of the play, this study provides a psychological definition of the grotesque which may be used as a critical model for other literary works that involve a grotesque vision.
