About the author: Stephen J. Foster received his PhD from the Univeristy of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently Assistant Professor of French at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virgina. Earlier books include the correspondence between Erckmann and Chatrian, and a study on Erckmann-Chatrian in the United States and England.
