Paul Estaver was a jazz musician for 25 years. His current work of poetry, Smoke, is an adaptation of a 500-page novel which won the Virginia Prize for Fiction in 1984. He has won several other awards for his poetry, including a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. From 1953-1965 he was the editor of Profiles. After career in the Department of Justice, he resigned to write full-time.
