About the author: Roger Turvey read History at the University of Wales, Swansea, where he gained a first class honours degree and was awarded the Professor Glanmor Williams Prize in History and the Lleufer Thomas University of Wales Prize in Welsh History. After a period of research he was awarded a PhD for which he also received the William Greenway Memorial Research Prize in Medieval History. He joined the staff of Amman Valley School as Head of the History Department. For more than a decade he has edited The Journal of the Pembrokeshire Historical Society. He has published seven books and nearly thirty articles for historical journals and contributions in edited books.
