Dr. Christopher Phiri received his Ph.D. in Development Studies from the University of Fort Hare. He currently works for World Vision South Africa as Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Team Leader.
2014 0-7734-4369-X Draws on a broad phenomenological approach to understanding why the post-apartheid government’s top-down approaches has failed to alleviate poverty in South Africa. It provides an examination of the bottom-up approach to poverty alleviation by pointing out the vulnerability, capability and capacity of the rural people to cope and develop sustainable livelihoods approaches dependent on their available resources and networking relationships.
