This study examines the detective narrative of Ramón Díaz Eterovic with a particular emphasis on his novels published between 2001 and 2007. The book proposes an original and relevant analysis of Díaz Eterovic’s literary work by positing that his novels confront the dominant discourses of culture, politics, and histiography through the integration of the hard-boiled and so-called social novel. The result is a critical look at Chile’s democratic transition in the post-dictatorial era (1990-2007).

Reviews

“With certainty we can assert that this analysis of the last five novels published by Ramón Díaz Eterovic prior to the end of 2007 constitutes a fundamental contribution to the panorama of Latin American studies and the neopolicial, primarily for its methodological focus (cultural-ideological), capable of approaching this prominent Chilean writer’s narrative work as a chronicle of present-day Chile and Latin America.” – Dr. Patricia Espinosa Hernández, Professor of Literary Criticism and Chilean Literature, Instituto de la Comunicación e Imagen de la Universidad de Chile and in the Instituto de la Estética de la Pontificia Universidad Católica

“The high level of professionalism exhibited in this study . . . positions the book as an ineludible reference for scholars in Latin America, Europe, and the United States who increasingly consider Ramón Díaz Eterovic’s narrative as one of the most significant manifestations of new critical realism in the continent’s current literature.” – Dr. Nelson Osorio Tejeda, Full Professor, University of Santiago, Chile, Director of the FONDECYT research program

“Guillermo García-Corales and Mirian Pino’s critical study of the recent literary works of Chilean writer Ramón Díaz Eterovic examines with erudite clarity and perceptiveness the characteristics attributed to [the new detective novel’s] increased relevance within the Latin American literary panorama.” – Dr. Cecilia Ojeda, Associate Professor of Spanish, Northern Arizona University
