About Ferdinando Giorgetti

About the author: Born in Italy, Franco Sciannameo studied in Rome at the Conservatorio di Musica “Santa Cecilia” and later at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia . In the United States, Sciannameo studied at The University of Hartford while on the faculty of The Hartford Conservatory. As a violinist he performed with orchestras and chamber groups in Rome, Hartford, Dallas, and Cleveland. He holds advanced degrees in Historical Musicology and Cultural Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. Franco Sciannameo has been on the faculty of the Carnegie Mellon School of Music since 1990, where he is Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies. He is also on the faculty of the Center for Arts in Society. He publishes and lectures extensively on contemporary music and its relations to politics, cinema, and the arts.
