About the editor: Karin Friedrich received her PhD from Georgetown University in 1995, and was appointed lecturer in History at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, London, the same year. Her research is in the field of Polish and Prussian history in the early modern period. Her book The Other Prussia: Royal Prussia, Poland and Liberty, 1569-1772 is forthcoming.
