About the author: Gian Balsamo is a Fellow in the Humanities at Stanford University. He was educated in comparative literature and theory at Vanderbilt University and the University of Massachusetts, and in the social sciences at the Université de Génève and the Universitá di Torino. His specialties include Joycean, Proustian, legal, and religious studies. His previous books are: Pruning the Genealogical Tree: Lineage and Procreation in Literature, Law, and Religion; Rachele accucciata sugli dèi; and Lettera alla Venere in pelliccia.
