Arachniphilia is a reflection of Man as a territorial primate: what humans inflict on each other does not rise far above that of the rest of the animal kingdom. Yet it also hints at the nobler feelings which are part of our legacy as rational creatures. Some of the poems celebrate nature or our ability to recognize that we are a small part of something far, far greater than any one of us.
